Improving your balance means greater safety and independence.
Did you know that there were around 3,000 fall-related deaths in 2015? Did you know that last year in NSW, over 200,000 people attended hospital related to falls? Did you know that the elderly population, plus 65 years are recorded to have a much higher falling rate of death and injury than other population groups?
Effective injury prevention strategies have been developed for a wide range of potential causes of injury. There are numerous causes of imbalance, but a substantial percentage is due to a weakness or deficit inside your brain more precisely the vestibular system. The vestibular system delivers information about motion and your body’s position in space.
The brain, inner ear, vision and sensation, consist of the systems that maintain balance. When one of these is impaired, the body experiences this misalliance of information as a feeling of imbalance. Vestibular Rehabilitation, physical and occupational therapists utilise specific procedures to treat vertigo and balance disorders with success rates as high as 90%.
